It’s been almost 4 months since the last post. It’s very sad.
In my actual, paying work, this year has slammed me good and hard. It’s finally starting to pay dividends, but the hours are long. That’s what can happen when you’re a company owner, right? Even when there has been time, I’ve been much more likely to want to play games rather than program them.
The next update will be a jump to v0.2. The big change will be moving away from non-deterministic calculations to deterministic. This will allow far easier implementation of replays, and should multiplayer ever happen, make that not-insane to work on.
Finishing the tier 2 units and trying a new guild system should be part of v0.2.
For the battlefield, I need to nail down the workflow, as it is too much work to edit maps. I’ve implemented a new method of parallax and it’s turned out quite nicely. The campaign will need a decent variety of backgrounds to maintain visual interest. The campaign really needs some time dedicated to it. There’s only some ideas on paper, but will need to start building and testing them.
One thing I’ve considered is upscaling the graphics. The game was originally intended to post on Kongregate or similar site, where 800 x 600 is the max permitted resolution. But it seems I’m focusing more on Windows, and it makes sense to actually allow full screen. Of course, this will take time, and I’ve already spent a lot of time on this…that decision will come later…
